This image just about sums up the hurricane season for me. We only flew these 2 storms in the atlantic and 1 storm in the pacific. And all in the month of August. We didn't really fly any other storms any other month. There was a storm later that the P3's were going to fly, but there was equipment issues and then HRD wasn't that interested in it. So they never did fly it.
The GIV has been in Ardmore, Oklahoma for the past few months. It's getting a tail doppler radar. It's like the one on the P3s but on a GIV scale. There's been a lot of issues getting it up to specs and installed. We're still not entirely sure it'll be installed for winter storms. And we're pretty sure that even if it is installed we won't use it. We have a lot of tests to run on it before it'll be operationally ready.
Speaking of winter storms...I'm going back to Japan! ^_^
I'll be there for about half of January and all of February. I've been brushing up on my Japanese and I can't wait to head to the noodle house. They have good food!
After winter storms I come back and I'm going to try a horticulture class at the technical college here in St Pete. Yes, horticulture. I'm leaving NOAA and moving on to something that interests me a bit more. It's been great with NOAA and I've had a great time. But when I think about what I'll be doing for the next 10 years or so with NOAA I really don't look forward to it. And I'd rather do something I look forward to doing. So I'm going to try out my green thumb and see what grows.
